| Personal History | Born in 2371, Vaaet Pazon was born to Jiott and Oski Pazon. Pazon's father was a soldier in the Cardassian 4th Order, which led to Vaaet and his family being frequently moved throughout the Cardassian Union during Vaaet's youth due to his father being transferred to other assignments. When the Cardassian Union allied with the Dominion and the Dominion Wars broke out, Vaaet's family was sent to Cardassia while his father served aboard the Cardassian Warship Aldara. During the conflict his father was killed when the Aldara was destroyed by the Klingon starship IKS Yab'loD. This has led Vaaet to have a lifelong hatred of Klingons. Growing up without a father, Vaaet became the defacto man of the house as he aged and put a lot of responsibility upon himself. At the age of 12, however, his mother married Janac Yocar - a family friend who had served alongside Vaaet's father in the 4th Order. While Vaaet loves his mother, he hates his stepfather who had mistreated Vaaet for not pursuing the military life and focusing on scientific pursuits. Due to this strain, Yacar - who was the Prefect of the Ses'erakh Military Academy - arranged for Vaaet to be enrolled and enlisted in the Cardassian Guard when he reached age 16. Vaaet was assigned to specialized training on the Cardassian world of Soukara. Being separated from his mother and sisters was rough upon Vaaet and he struggled with his assignment and studies. Facing expulsion, his stepfather pulled strings to arrange for Vaaet to remain in training despite Vaaet's desires to return home. It was around this time that Vaaet found his calling when a fellow soldier was infected with an unknown pathogen while on assignment. None of the doctors were able to deduce the nature of the pathogen and a doctor from a nearby Federation Colony was brought in to treat Vaaet's friend. Deducing that the doctor was, however, not there of his own choice, Vaaet was able to extract the doctor and helped him return to his home colony in secret before the Cardassian Guard could act. A refugee, Vaaet was able to apply for asylum within the Federation and had it granted by the local magistrate due to the risk of his return to Cardassian territory. Concluding schooling on the colony world of Nehru, Vaaet enrolled in Enaren University on Betazed to study medicine. While university was a struggle for him due to his upbringing, his professors were compassionate to his situation and he progressed with assistance. Accepted into medical school at Enaren University, Vaaet was more successful with hands on instruction, but was considered an average student. Upon graduation, Vaaet and several friends went on vacation to Freecloud. During this trip, however, Vaaet garnered the attention of a Cardassian crew that was also visiting the planet. One of the Cardassian soldiers identified Vaaet as having fled Soukara and a fight broke out in which Vaaet was apprehended by the Cardassian soldiers. Put on trial, Vaaet was found guilty of desertion and was sentenced to forced labor at the Hutet Labor Camp. Identifying that Vaaet had successfully completed medical training, the Cardassian Courts commuted the sentence and returned Vaaet to the Cardassian Guard, where he was assigned to serve as a Medical Officer. After a brief assignment to the Cardassian vessel Thrarim, Vaaet was transferred to Deep Space 21 as part of the Cardassian Union's new treaty with the Federation. |
