Mission: Episode 9: Across Time
Location: Deylos III, USS Veritas

The Veritas maintained orbit above Deylos III, her crew busy coordinating the delivery of atmospheric processors to the beleaguered colony below. On the surface, Captain Davenport projected calm authority, overseeing a humanitarian mission. But within the ship’s secure briefing room, another current of work was quietly underway.

Commander Christine Flear sat at the head of the small table, her hands folded. Beside her, Lieutenant Taren’s antennae angled forward, intent. Across from him, Dr. Hale from the science division scrolled through a set of encrypted files. The room was sealed, shields active against eavesdropping.

“Starfleet Command confirmed receipt of our latest packet,” Flear said. “Admiral Thorne has authorized further analysis, but the channel remains need-to-know only. We proceed cautiously.”

Dr. Hale turned the display toward them. “The D’Arvuk’s logs reference Goloroth repeatedly, but not as a base of operations. More like… a quarantine site. And the common thread is Thalaron radiation.”

That word silenced the room. Even whispered, it carried the weight of taboo. Thalaron radiation wasn’t just lethal—it was annihilation, capable of unraveling organic matter at the molecular level.

Flear exhaled slowly. “Then Yoshida wasn’t running an espionage ring. He was there because Goloroth was being used to study or contain Thalaron. That changes everything.”

Lieutenant Taren frowned. “It explains the Tal Shiar presence. They would never abandon a weapon with that potential. But why cover up Starfleet’s involvement?”

Flear tapped the table. “Because no government wants its citizens to know their safety was preserved by trafficking in nightmares. Yoshida’s name being buried wasn’t to smear him. It was to protect him, and the Federation, from political fallout.”

Her combadge chirped, and she moved to the corner for privacy. The voice of Admiral Thorne carried through the secure channel.
“Commander Flear, proceed with discretion. If Thalaron is truly at the heart of this, containment is our priority. The Romulans cannot be provoked. And Christine, trust Yoshida’s record. He did what was necessary in impossible times.”

When the channel closed, she returned to her team. “We keep digging. Quietly. Our humanitarian mission here gives us cover. But Goloroth isn’t just an intelligence mystery—it’s a potential catastrophe waiting to resurface.”

Through the viewport, Deylos III shimmered in the thin light of its failing sun. To the crew of the Veritas, today’s duty was to save a struggling colony. To Flear and her small circle, it was also to ensure the ghosts of Goloroth—and the shadow of Thalaron—never threatened the living again.
