Episode 9: Across Time
Location: Across the Sempok Nor
Timeline: 20 Years Ago
===20 Years Ago, Sempok Nor====
Davin Strix, Alena's father, followed Ilyas back in the crawl tubes of Sempok Nor to get back to the Science Lab where Ilyas appeared.
Gil Zeymar Tressid and Maron Ruka were behind them, they couldn't leave Ilyas to a stranger. Even one that wanted to help. Ruka feared that if they got caught she'd lose Zeymar and knew he was probably thinking the same as every few metres the two exchanged looks as they crawled.
The boy soon tumbled back into the science lab and pointed to where exactly he had appeared before Zeymar had found him.
After Ilyas, Davin, Zeymar with Ruka at the rear crawled out into the Science Lab. Immediately on alert as the lights were on and three security officers stood arrayed about the Lab, two scientists were working on something at the other side to the crawlspace entry.
“Freeze, hands up!” One of the security officers called. They nodded at their second. “Take their weapons.”
Ilyas squealed as a weapon was pointed at him and he did freeze in place, eyes wide in fright.
Jareth, one of the other security officers in the lab, stepped forward while hinting each of the group had to hand over any of the weapons they had. To make sure they had he searched them too. Satisfied he nodded to his direct superior, “This is everything.”
The third officer walked around the central console to cut off their possible escape, though there was only one door.
It was time consuming to go back through the crawlspace again as they’d get physically captured or stunned before any of them could escape.
“Gil Tressid, what is happening here?” The lead security officer asked with his weapon aimed at his former colleague.
Zeymar knew it was useless to fight their way out even with Davin’s help and weaponless. He should have gone to check if the Lab was empty on his own but like Ruka got caught up in the excitement Davin’s plan gave them. He tried the first excuse that came to mind. “Our little friend here wanted to see the Lab, last time I checked the schedule it was free at this time.”
It was unclear the lead officer would buy it because Davin, a civilian trader, was present. Which looked like a robbery setup of anything in the Lab. The Lead Officer turned to their second and gestured at the four. “Do you believe them?”
“I bet a bottle of Kanar they’re lying.” Jareth said and gave the group a cold stare. “This is a science laboratory and off limits to civilians. And why use the crawlspaces to get here?”
Zeymar knew they’d have to be questioned and put in the brig for the investigation. He knew most of the Security personnel weren’t prone to bouts of shooting without cause, considering Sempok Nor was a classified station the Union couldn’t afford the staff turnover or attention of having to send forces to it regularly. Starfleet would catch on and investigate.
“This isn’t going to be good for my captain,” Davin muttered just loud enough for Ruka, Zeymar and Ilyas to hear. He was a cause for several incidents, mostly with alcohol and the occasional flirting with a woman he shouldn’t have.
The teenage boy watched the adults closely, his senses reeling with all the different emotions flying in the room. "Please," he begged of the Cardassian who held him at gunpoint, "I just want to go home. I don't understand how I got here but they're helping me go home." It was technically not a lie, but in some sense it was. He knew what got him here, but the how eluded the child.
"Take them all to the brig for questioning," the Security lead ordered.
"No please," the boy begged, digging his heels in as he was grabbed by his arms. "I want to go home. I don't belong here, please!"
“That’s one thing you are right about.” Jareth pushed the boy forward. “You’re no Cardassian and no Scientist. Just a small Humanoid boy who is too curious for his own good. Well, we’ll take care of that.”
The bit stumbled as he was pushed, tears making tracks across his face. "I'm Vulcan," he whispered, knowing he didn't fully look the part, but it was how he identified, emotion and all.
Before any of the other Cardassians could move, Zeymar moved to behind Ilyas and with his hands on the boy's shoulders helped guide him out of the Lab. Ruka followed as did Davin for the Security supervisor had his weapon aimed at their backs leading the other Security officers out of the Lab.
"Stay calm, Ilyas," Zeymar softly instructed as he gave the boy's shoulders a squeeze. "I'm not giving up."
Ruka smiled to herself as she walking by Zeymar's side, she laid a hand on top of Zeymar's hand which was still on Ilyas' shoulder.
Davin was walking behind them and so blocked their show of affection from Union Security officers. He coughed to warn them that it was not the time.
It was clear as Ruka quickly put her hand behind her back.
It wasn't long before the group were put into the Security block's brig. Ruka and Ilyas in one cell, Davin and Zeymar in another. Probably a show that the Supervisor noticed that Zeymar had feelings for Ruka, and that the Supervisor wanted the boy to feel hopelessness by separating him from Zeymar.
The Union Security officers left, the Supervisor laughing that Zeymar was finished from the military.
Davin and Zeymar sat on the bed opposite the field. "I should have checked first." Zeymar muttered as he watched Ilyas and Ruka, she was talking to him quietly.
"No point dwelling on it now Gil, we have to prepare." Davin sounded like he expected something to happen to help them. "Considering that Ilyas is from the future, it will only take time before his family enlist Starfleet to get him back. Trust me, something will happen." He grinned.
This seemed to make Ruka and Ilyas to look directly at them, as if they heard him. After a brief moment of consideration, Zeymar tore his eyes from Ruka and Ilyas to stare at Davin.
"You're a Betazoid?" Zeymar inquired softly.
Davin nodded.
"Is that important?" Ilyas asked timidly. Being locked up was very daunting for the young boy.
"Yes," Davin replied with a frown. "I was part of the team that created the beacon. It clearly had been stolen and used by someone, which is why you are here Ilyas. Sorry about that."
Tag Ilyas from the other cell across the room
"I am too," another voice said from another cell.
It was too familiar to Davin and his eyebrows shot up. "Turk Samax!" Davin called as Turk stood and approached his cell's forcefield, better revealing his face.
"This is a surprise, fancy meeting you here and after all this time, Davin Strix. How is your wife and daughter?" Turk asked but the expression he had showed that the second Betazoid already knew.
"I wouldn't know, you forced me to abandon them, you savage." Davin snarled, and he stood before going to the forcefield. Sadly Cardassian's fields are lethal so neither dared get any closer to it.
"Well this is awkward." Zeymar chimed in with a glance over to Turk. "Why are you here?" He asked, as he wasn't in the cells when he was still an active Security officer.
"Just before you, had a run in with some old friends here on the station and security had to break us up." Turk laughed, "you should see the other guy, in the infirmary."
Davin shook his head but Turk continued. "So the beacon sent that boy here and you'll need my help to get him back." It wasn't a suggestion. "Then we will have to make a break for your ship, if it's still docked."
A nod from Davin followed by a sigh. "Deal, Turk you jerk, you always annoy everyone but you are one of the best subspace engineers I know." It was an insult compliment and the two made a quick telepathic ping pong match of insults that got the two laughing several moments later.
"Telepaths," Zeymar muttered, with annoyance.
"Nothing wrong with telepaths," Ilyas objected, "I'm one too, sort of...I just haven't learned how to do it yet. Not properly anyway."
That's when a flash of light passed through the cell block and nearly gave everyone blindness but it was over as if a creature had flown past the forcefield. Though what the group now could see is the light of the room and some of the air in the area warp then distort so much that the forcefields fluctuated. Several panels along the cell frames burst while sparks flew out wildly.
Luckily Zeymar was standing at the back of the cell, but Davin did get thrown to the floor as did Turk, Zeymar could see that the lights in the block were flickering wildly with longer internals being off than on. He saw Ruka had grabbed Ilyas and was shielding him from the sparks but had gotten a little closer to the forcefield.
The teenager squealed as the shields sparked and sputtered, and reached for Ruka to pull her back just in case. "Don't touch it," he dried out in alarm, "don't get near it "
The fields blinked out of existence and didn't return. Zeymar knew they had limited time, so he rushed over to Davin and got him to his feet. "Let's go." He told him and Davin was already going to Turk's side. Zeymar meanwhile quickly embraced Ruka and Ilyas. "We better go to the science lab now." He gently grabbed Ruka's hand and he tugged the two towards the exit. Funnily enough no Security officers had arrived yet, maybe that flash of light wasn't just in here? Zeymar had thought as he glanced back to find Turk and Davin following them.
Ilyas trusted the two completely, they'd kept him safe so far and he had no reason to doubt them now. So, he allowed himself to be pulled along since he felt so disoriented, he had no idea where to go to begin with.
As the group made their way out of the security office, Davin felt the Beacon's connection strengthen as it seemed to look for whoever had telepathically touched it. Him, Ilyas and now Turk as there felt a circle of 4 in the link. Suddenly as if pulled off his balance, Davin quickly realised it was the Beacon's recall function. He dashed over and grabbed Ilyas putting the boy between him and the direction of Beacon's tether. Both vanished in a blink, Turk did as well as Zeymar and Ruka watched them disappear in astonishment.
"Seems they may have gone back to the future," Ruka commented with a smile. Zeymar shared the smile but they had to get off the station. Though Zeymar had a feeling he should check on the other officers.
To his pleasure, the three including the Overseer, that arrested them were dealing with a worker riot by the worker gate. As Zeymar was about to suggest Ruka go hide somewhere, all three officers who knew of his suspension and the arrests were killed by workers. He quickly went to the security station and found his access hadn't even been revoked yet. Zeymar grinned, he was safe.
